Vertex Hip Fracture Nailing System2026-04-29T11:19:47+01:00

Precision fixation with diverging screws and fluted nail stem, engineered to increase bone engagement for earlier mobilization with less pain.

The Vertex Hip Fracture Nailing System (Vertex HFN) aims to provide optimal stability, versatility and usability, with two interdigitating diverging screws, a fluted press fit nail stem, and stability focused set screw. Engineered to address instability challenges, it offers adaptability for diverse patient anatomies and complex fractures.

The Vertex Solution

Cutout Resistance

Vertex HFN offers a novel approach to fixation that enhances resistance to cutout, a common complication in hip fracture repair. It utilises a dual-screw configuration – 2 fixation points within the femoral head, a lag screw, and a diverging screw, oriented at a 10° angle relative to each other. This configuration with diverging fixation aims to enhance mechanical stability and reduce cutout risk compared to single or parallel screw designs.

Our recent white paper shows that all Vertex HFN configurations statistically significantly outperformed leading competitor products; Zimmer Biomet AFFIXUS® and Stryker Gamma3®, with the Vertex Superior orientation achieving the highest resistance to cutout.

Nail Stem Rotational Stability

Vertex HFN incorporates a radially fluted nail stem designed to improve rotational stability and enhance implant-to-bone engagement. The fluted stem creates a secure press-fit engagement within the proximal femur, improving rotational resistance of the nail. This design addresses implant instability across varied anatomies and fracture types.

In the white paper testing detailed below, all Vertex HFN configurations demonstrated statistically significant improvements in rotational stability compared to leading competitor nails. It creates a continuous interlocking interface with bone, making it 2.4× more rotationally stable than INTERTAN™. By contrast, the round-profile Gamma3® offers minimal resistance and is 23× less stable than Vertex HFN.

Reducing Femoral Head Rotation

Vertex HFN employs two fixation points set at a 10° divergence to resist femoral head rotation. This dual-screw design distributes torsional forces more effectively than single-screw or blade systems. When comparing the proximal locking options across systems for rotational stability between the implant and bone, Vertex HFN achieved 5.3X greater rotational stability vs Gamma3® and 2.8X greater rotational stability vs TFNA®.

The Vertex HFN’s increased rotational stability may translate clinically into reduced risk of cutout and malalignment compared to a traditional screw or blade construct.
