OrthoXel at The Summit 2025: A Week of Surgical Innovation in Cologne
OrthoXel took part in this year’s World Surgery Tour: The Summit 2025, held in Cologne, Germany – an international stage where leading orthopaedic innovators and surgeons came together to assess new innovations in orthopaedic fracture care. A highlight of the event was the live surgical demonstration comparing intramedullary nailing techniques of OrthoXel’s Apex Tibial Nail versus an external fixator system, both performed on cadaveric specimens with pre-fractured multi-fragment distal tibia fractures.
The demonstration, conducted by Michael Weaver, MD, Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, was the focal point of our presence at The Summit. The live surgical demonstration included setting up for the suprapatellar approach, placing a blocking screw, implanting the nail along with optimising the fracture reduction. In parallel, a ring fixator surgery was also completed, allowing discussion on the clinical advantages of each approach.

Dr. Weaver shared his enthusiasm after the session:
Michael Weaver, MD
“I was proud to partner with OrthoXel for The Summit in Cologne, Germany. We showcased the Apex Tibial Nailing System in a live surgical demonstration. This system features controlled axial micromotion technology and enhanced torsional stability, designed to promote fracture healing and improve patient outcomes.”

Beyond the live demo, OrthoXel engaged directly with surgeons from Germany, the USA, Colombia, Japan, and Austria in two days of busy wet-lab sessions, co-led by Michael Weaver MD and Prof. Dr. med. Benedikt Braun, MBA. These hands-on labs offered participants a unique opportunity to interact with the Apex Tibial Nailing System instrumentation, and gain practical insights into their distinctive design. The week in Cologne was about more than showcasing a product – it was about meaningful connection, clinical innovation, and the shared pursuit of excellence in orthopaedic care. Thank you to everyone who joined us – your insights and collaboration have been incredibly valuable, and we are excited to keep building for the future.
