New White Paper: Fracture Healing Following Delayed Weight Bearing in High-Energy Tibial Fractures Treated with Apex Micromotion Fixation

Following the release of our podcast with Dr. Sean Campbell last September, we’re pleased to share the next chapter in that discussion with the publication of a new clinical white paper.

“Fracture Healing Following Delayed Weight Bearing in High-Energy Tibial Fractures Treated with Apex Micromotion Fixation” presents a case discussion from the University of California Davis Medical Center, exploring three particularly challenging tibial fractures that required prolonged periods of restricted weight bearing due to associated injuries and soft tissue considerations.

In each case, limited radiographic progression was observed during the non-weight-bearing period, followed by progressive callus formation and successful fracture union after weight bearing was initiated. Dr. Campbell discusses the potential interaction between controlled axial micromotion, progressive loading, and fracture healing, and why maintaining torsional stability while allowing controlled axial movement may be particularly beneficial in these complex injuries.

The paper expands on several cases first discussed during our podcast and provides detailed clinical commentary, radiographic progression, and practical insights from routine clinical practice.

We would like to thank Dr. Campbell for his continued collaboration and for sharing his experience with the Apex Tibial Nailing System.
