Building Momentum in 2026: Distributor Training, Clinical Leadership & Research Excellence
As OrthoXel moves into 2026, our focus remains clear: strengthening education, collaboration, and clinical impact across the orthopaedic trauma community. From hands-on distributor training in the U.S. to global recognition of our clinical leadership and surgeon partners, the start of the year reflects meaningful progress and shared momentum.
Clinical Leadership Spotlight: A Day in the Life at Cork University Hospital
OrthoXel’s commitment to patient-centred innovation was also highlighted recently, as Chief Medical Officer James Harty, MD, was featured in Episode 3 of RTÉ’s docuseries, Any Given Day: Cork University Hospital. The episode followed Professor Harty, who is the current Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedics at Cork University Hospital and a faculty member at University College Cork – through a complex clinical day, including care for a patient requiring a total femur replacement. The episode provided insight into the clinical decision-making, teamwork, and patient-centred care involved in advanced orthopaedic procedures. The feature reflects the level of clinical expertise and leadership that helps guide OrthoXel’s approach to innovation and product development.

U.S. Distributor Training in Indianapolis
A productive distributor and sales representative training session recently took place in Indianapolis, setting the tone for a strong start to the year. Led by Michael Murphy and Greg West, the training focused on continued education, real-world application, and strategic support surrounding the Apex Nailing Systems.
The session emphasized lower extremity fracture fixation, walking distributors through clinical indications of Apex Nails, the surgical technique, and practical use cases seen in the field. Beyond product education, the training also addressed inventory optimization and logistical best practices, ensuring distributors are well-equipped to provide consistent, high-level service to surgeons and care teams. These in-person sessions create an important feedback loop, allowing OrthoXel to learn directly from distributor experiences while reinforcing confidence and consistency in how Apex Nails are introduced and supported across diverse clinical environments.
In the coming weeks, OrthoXel will be sharing additional insights from Greg and Mike, highlighting what they’re seeing in the field, common questions from surgeons, and practical technique tips that support successful adoption. Recognizing Research Excellence on a Global Stage
OrthoXel also congratulates Augustine Saiz, MD (UC Davis Health) on earning the Gold Medal at the AO Trauma Research Olympiad, held in Davos, Switzerland. The Olympiad brought together early-career surgeons from across five global regions to present their research to a jury of orthopaedic trauma experts. Dr. Saiz’s achievement underscores his commitment to advancing orthopaedic trauma research and highlights the calibre of surgeons OrthoXel is proud to collaborate with. Listen to this OTA Podcast episode as Dr. Saiz discusses using the Apex Nails and how micromotion helped stimulate robust callus formation in his patients at UC Davis in California.

Welcome to the Team!
We are delighted to welcome Domhnall O’Connor to OrthoXel! Domhnall joins our Engineering Team as an Engineering Intern through the University of Limerick’s Cooperative Education Programme, where he is currently completing his third year of a BSc in Product Design and Technology.
He will mainly be working within the Engineering Team while also gaining valuable exposure to other areas of the business. He is looking forward to gaining invaluable knowledge and hands-on experience in the medical device industry and is grateful for the opportunity to learn from the team and gain insight into the work they do.
